PDRM RM1.8 million loss due to riot

KUALA LUMPUR: "Polis Diraja Malaysia (PDRM)", RM1.828 million loss due to damage to property and assets during the riots at the rally organized by non-governmental organizations that supported the opposition here on Saturday.

Secretary General of Ministry of Home Affairs, Tan Sri Mahmood Adam, said that besides the physical losses, the police also had to put up with abusive insults and injured by the participants of the rally.
"The cost of this loss should be avoided and used to fund things that much more worthwhile if the illegal gathering does not happen," he said in a statement here today.
Saturday, the rally participants crashed into a barrier to enter the acting square, thus broke the Kuala Lumpur Magistrate's Court which prohibits the presence of civilians in the square from 28 April to May 1.

So far police have arrested 513 participants of the rally because of rioting in the gathering and hunting 49 again.

Mahmood said, about 14.331 members and police officers from various departments on duty throughout the rally.
