SHAH ALAM: The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) will introduce the Terminal Licensing method so that the existing terminals can be upgraded and supervised in a more efficient manner by the terminal owners so that they will be comparable with world standard terminals.
Its chairman, Tan Sri Syed Hamid Albar said the move was made so that the public transportation system could provide services that fulfilled the needs of the customers for comfort and security in line with the objectives of the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
"For this purpose, we drew up the Blueprint in gathering the views of all parties involved directly or indirectly in the Public Transportation Industry, before the implementation of the licensing is imposed on the owners of the terminal," he told reporters after opening the Workshop on the Blueprint for the Licensing of the Land Transport Terminal at the Concorde Hotel, here Thursday.
The one-day workshop was attended by about 100 participants comprising Terminal operators, Local Authorities, non-governmental organisations including the handicapped, bus company operators, taxi associations and transport planning experts.
He said more than 300 public transport terminals in Peninsular Malaysia made up of railway, bus and taxi terminals were in poor condition including in terms of basic infrastructure, maintenance, cleanliness and facilities.
