KUALA LUMPUR (May 3, 2012) : Police have formed a special investigations team to probe allegations of police brutality on protestors and journalists during the Bersih 3.0 rally on Saturday.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the probe team has been tasked to gather all information and evidence of brutality allegedly committed by police personnel during the rally.
He said in a statement that though the media was free to carry stories related to the rally including the negative allegations made against the police, it should be fair and unbiased.
He said the police appreciated media reports that are based on constructive criticism and facts, while irresponsible reporting would create negative sentiments among the public.
The police were put in a bad light after its personnel had allegedly roughed up protestors, journalists and photographers during the rally. Protestors of the rally had also retaliated by assaulting several policemen
